The Tooth Extraction Process
Your dentist will begin by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area. They will then make an incision in the gum to expose the tooth and carefully remove it. The dentist will clean out the extraction site and place some gauze to promote the formation of a blood clot.

Tooth Extraction Recovery
Following your tooth extraction, you will need to keep gauze over the extraction site until a blood clot forms. When the anesthetic wears off, you may experience pain in the extraction area. This can be mitigated with over-the-counter pain medication. Your dentist may recommend rinsing your mouth with warm salt water 24 hours after the extraction.
