Oral and maxillofacial surgery is performed on the hard and soft tissue of the mouth and face. This may include removing impacted wisdom teeth, difficult tooth extractions, dental implants, and bone grafting.
The procedure is different for every type of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Before surgery, your dentist will evaluate your teeth, gums, face, and neck, and take dental X-rays. You’ll be given a sedative prior to the procedure, which means that you’ll need a family member or friend to pick you up and take you home after the surgery.
